CINCINNATI (FOX19) -

On a night where Cincinnati sported fatigues to honor the military, The Reds wore out the Dodgers in a 5-0 win, snapping a two-game skid. Johnny Cueto picked up his sixth win of the season and matched a career high with 12 strikeouts.

Cueto was phenomenal giving up just three hits, but well tested tossing out 112 pitches in six innings of work.

"They dragged some out bats, fouled off a lot of pitches and made him throw a lot of pitches," said Reds manager Bryan Price. "Subsequently, he was out after six innings but it was six innings we had to have."

Cueto (6-5) became the fourth Reds pitcher since 1914 to record 12 strikeouts in six innings or less.

In his second game back off the disabled list, Joey Votto started the scoring in the third with a two-run double, followed by a Brandon Phillips RBI single to give the Reds a 3-0 lead.

"Our recipe to success has been scoring early and tacking [runs] on and keeping it there," said Price.

Jay Bruce added to the lead in the sixth with a solo homerun, his fifth of the season. Billy Hamilton singled up the middle in the seventh to score Zack Cozart, which made it 5-0 Reds.

The Reds (30-34) can earn a series split with a win over the Dodgers on Thursday. Alfredo Simon will face Zack Greinke with the first pitch at 12:35 p.m.
