LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The Clark Memorial Bridge is shut down after a deadly accident Thursday morning.
Police said it happened at 7:38 a.m., as a woman attempted to cross Second Street using the crosswalk.
Dwight Mitchell, spokesman for the Louisville Metro Police Department, said a cement truck was making a right turn onto the Clark Memorial Bridge, known locally as the Second Street Bridge, when the woman was struck.
Police said the driver of the cement truck was unaware he hit a pedestrian and continued driving onto the bridge until several witnesses flagged him down.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Mitchell, the preliminary investigation suggests this was a "very unfortunate accident."
Police have not released the identity of the victim.
The entire bridge is shut down at this time. It is not known how long the lane closures will be in place.
The Louisville Metro Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate the crash site.
