(CNN) - Happy birthday, President George H.W. Bush!

The first President Bush turns 90 on Thursday and celebrated with a tandem skydive.

To celebrate, he will have dinner with 200 family and friends then top it off with a performance by Irish tenor Ronan Tynan - after skydiving.

Bush's health is a far cry from 1 1/2 years ago.

On Jan. 14, 2013, Bush was released from a Houston hospital after seven weeks of treatment for bronchitis, an infection and a persistent cough.

While he was already suffering from a form of Parkinson's disease, some people weren't sure how well he would be able to bounce back after the hospitalization.

But not only has he been able to travel, he has also seen a political resurgence.

Some fun facts about the 41st president:

  • He's the second U.S. president to be the father of a U.S. president, after John Adams.
  • Prior to becoming Ronald Reagan's vice president, he served as Director of the CIA.
  • Bush celebrated his 75th, 80th and 85th birthdays by skydiving.
