LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The Clark Memorial Bridge reopened just before noon on Thursday more than four hours after a deadly accident that happened at 2nd and Main Streets while a woman attempted to cross 2nd Street using a crosswalk.

Dwight Mitchell, spokesman for the Louisville Metro Police Department, said a concrete truck was making a right turn onto the Clark Memorial Bridge, known locally as the Second Street Bridge, when the woman was struck at 7:38 a.m.

Police said the driver of the concrete truck was unaware he had hit a pedestrian and continued driving onto the bridge until several witnesses flagged him down.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Mitchell, the preliminary investigation suggests this was a "very unfortunate accident."

Police have not released the identity of the victim.

The entire bridge was shut down almost four-and-a-half hours.
