Churches across Nacogdoches have joined together to give a hand up to those in their community. More than 200 volunteers are giving their time and talents as part of Mission Nac.
With every nail and every cut, volunteers with Mission Nac are making an impact by helping out their neighbors with home repairs.
"We found people that need help, and they don't need a hand out; they need a hand up, and we're here to serve them and to be honest to honor God," said Tiki Perkins with Grace Bible Church.
The mission started with Grace Bible Church four years ago but quickly spread.
"It's across the board. Christians in Nacogdoches have linked hands, joined together and said we want to make a different is people's lives," Perkins said.
Linda Page lives with her elderly father. The mission is re-doing the whole front porch and closing it in for her laundry room.
"We just thank God for the mission people. We just thank God for everything they have done that needed to be done. Sometimes you just don't have the means to do everything, so I'm glad they chose our house to do it," Page said.
Volunteers worked on Mary Caldwell's home two years ago, and now, they're back.
"God is performing another miracle through by Mission Nac," Caldwell said. "Things that have been prayed for. Not knowing what, when or how, but god has always said if you just ask and be patient I'll do it."
Caldwell has since joined Mission Nac and goes around to different project sites giving words of encouragement. This year, landscaping, tree trimming, roofing, construction, and painting crews are working on 13 projects.
"We're just trying to help some of these older folks that need renovations to their homes," said Danny Mora with Grace Bible Church. "We're painting, replacing springs, doors, whatever we can do to help make their lives easier. When you see the people smiling because they can get in and out of their houses, or they have a dry roof now or a porch screened in where they can sit and visit with their neighbors, it warms your heart."
Mission Nac says they have received a lot of community support from local restaurants and Lowe's, which gave them a 50 percent discount on all their supplies.
