(WMC) - There is a new trend this Father's Day of recognizing women who sometimes take on the role of both mom and dad.
At greeting card stores around the Mid-South, people are looking for that special Father's Day card that describes how they feel about the special men in their lives; thanking them for all they do for their families.
Daniel Greer says his father and grandfather have always been there for him and he is eager to find just the right cards.
"It gives them a day of their own, everybody needs some day to feel special," said Greer.
However, you may start seeing more of a new trend in which Father's Day cards are being made for women like Jennifer Hurtley, who play both the mom and dad roles in the family.
"So I mean, I guess that probably says it all, we take on both roles. It's a lot harder than it appears, said Hurtley.
There seems to be a bit of a card controversy because some people say Mother's Day cards should be for Mother's Day and Father's Day cards should be for Father's Day. People on Facebook say the two should not mix.
A female writer took to the social network and posted, "Don't confuse the kids into believing one person can execute both roles because it takes two."
A male writer posted, "I'm deleting all women on my timeline that bash or claim to be fathers themselves today."
However, parents who spoke with WMC Action News 5 do not see these cards as doing any harm, and say they may even end up doing some good.
