The family of an Orleans Parish Prison inmate who died after a jailhouse fight is filing a wrongful death lawsuit.
The suit alleges that OPP deputies used pepper spray on 40-year-old Willie Lee after he complained about chest pains and trouble breathing. It also claims that deputies beat and kicked him before his death in March.
According to our partners at NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, the suit says jail staff did not call paramedics until more than an hour after Lee collapsed.
A spokesman for the jail said there is video evidence to dispute the suit's allegations.
