LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ (CBS5) -

A man was missing in Lake Havasu after he jumped in to cool off and strong winds pushed the boat out of his reach Monday evening.

The 62-year-old man was reported missing north of Parker Dam about 5:27 p.m. after he failed to resurface, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office. High winds kicked in after he jumped in and pushed the boat away from him as he tried to swim back.

The boat's operator tried to maneuver back to the man and people on board tried to throw him a rope, but he went under before they could reach him, the sheriff's office said.

Mohave County deputies said the man was visiting Lake Havasu City and was not wearing a life vest.

The search resumed Tuesday morning with divers from the sheriff's office and the Lake Havasu police.
