Grandview police seek man who tried to lure teen into car

Police are looking for a man who they say tried to lure a teen leaving a school into a vehicle about noon on Tuesday.

Grandview police said the man, who was described as about in his 30s, about 5'8" tall with a thin build, blonde hair and wearing oval-shaped glasses, approached a 13-year-old student leaving school. The incident happened near East 140th Street and Southern Road.

Now the neighborhood is shaken up over the news.

"It's a very nice neighborhood. The neighbors are all congenial," said Betty Teevan.

Teevan has lived in the Grandview neighborhood for more than 30 years. She also used to work at the school down the street where police say a man tried to abduct the teen.

"I have a big yard as you can see and I try to keep an eye on the kids," she said. "I'll keep my eye on it and if I see anything, I'll call the police."

The vehicle was described as a mid-to-late 1990s four-door with a gray rear bumper.

Anyone with information about the attempted abduction is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Greater Kansas City TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477) or the Grandview Police Department at 816-316-4980.
