LA GRANGE, KY (WAVE) - La Grange police are cracking down on underage drinking thanks to a $3,000 grant.

On Tuesday Major Frank Conway said the money, which was donated by Seven Counties, will be used to cover some of the costs of extra patrols and undercover cops to make sure stores are carding and underage kids are not using fake IDs.

Conway said underage drinking is very prevalent in La Grange and always has been.

"I think back when I was 16 or 17 years old, I'm sure a lot of people look back when they were 16 or 17 years old and think about how often they were out looking for a way to get alcohol or get their hands on alcohol and it's no different these days," he said.

Despite Seven Counties' financial struggles the group was able to award the money because through a federal grant.
