Authorities say the death of a 19-year-old at a Covington pool was not caused by foul play or an accident in the pool.
Darez Waller was at Goebel Pool with his family Tuesday afternoon when he passed away, according to officials. An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death.
Detective Derek Uhl was at the scene and said Waller appeared to be in good health prior to his death.
"Based on our preliminary investigation, nothing criminal was involved. Pool Staff performed CPR and tried their efforts to resuscitate until Fire and Police showed up ... It doesn't appear that it was caused by an accident at the pool," said Detective Uhl.
"Please know that the Goebel Pool staff and patrons acted respectfully and efficiently in a situation that required immediate action," said Covington Recreation specialist Cindy Swegles.
Goebel Pool, located on Dalton Avenue, is owned and operated by the city of Covington. The pool was closed Tuesday following the death.
