Latest drinking water report available in Kentucky

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky Division of Water has released a new report showing the state's public water systems saw only a slight increase in health-based drinking water violations from 2012 to 2013.

The agency says violations increased from 48 to 50 during the period. Those accounted for less than 5 percent of drinking water violations in 2013.

The division's Drinking Water Program coordinator, Julie Roney, said in a news release Tuesday that most violations in public water systems last year were administrative and not problems with water treatment.

Roney says treatment adjustments are usually made quickly after violations are issued, and most water supplies return to required ranges in a short time.

The compliance report, which is required by the federal Safe Drinking Water act, is available at http://water.ky.gov/DrinkingWater/Pages/AnnualComplianceReports.aspx .
