LOUISVILLLE, KY (WAVE) – Sandwich sales helped toward the cost of school supplies for children in need on Thursday.

During the kick-off of the 10th annual Service for Peace Backpack Angel Program the McDonald's on Hubbards Lane donated $1 of every Bacon Clubhouse sandwich sold to the Backpack Angel program.

In addition to donating a portion of their sales the restaurant also set up a place for residents to donate school supplies.

McDonald's Owner Brittney Barnett said, "School will be coming up in August and you can't really have too many school supplies for all the kids, so we wanted to start now."

Special guest such as former University of Louisville head basketball coach Denny Crum stopped by to support the program. Louisville Metro Police Department also joined in, allowing children to tour the department's helicopter and pet a horse from the mounted patrol.
