Kenner Police detectives are investigating an incident where a shooting, following a road rage incident, left a 10-year-old boy hurt. The incident occurred Saturday on Interstate 10 westbound in Kenner.
According to police, David Sean Jackson of New Orleans was driving a car westbound on I-10 with his girlfriend and two children inside. Also traveling westbound was a pickup truck driven by a 50-year-old man. Accompanying the man inside of the pickup was the man's girlfriend and her 10-year-old son, who was sitting in the back seat. When both vehicles reached the I-10/I-610 split, the man passed Jackson and veered into the same lane as him. Both drivers would continue to pass each other up throughout Metairie, into Kenner. Once reaching Kenner, Jackson pulled along side of the pickup and fired a gun at the truck, hitting the 10-year-old boy.
The driver of the truck, rammed Jackson's car and began chasing it onto the Williams Boulevard exit ramp. He rammed the car again at Williams Blvd. and 32nd Street, to prevent Jackson from driving off. Kenner Police stopped both vehicles at Williams and Driftwood Blvd.
As police investigated, they learned that Jackson was on parole until August 23, 2016 for felony possession of a firearm and distribution of drugs. In addition to the firearm, he was also found in possession of crack cocaine.
Police arrested Jackson and charged him with aggravated criminal damage to property, attempt second degree murder, illegal possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies, illegal carrying of weapons, multiple traffic violations and possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine (19 grams).
According to police, the 10-year-old was transported to University Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Doctors say that the boy received a graze wound on his nose and had fragments inside of his sinus cavity. Surgeons are working to remove the fragments, but if unable to do so, the child will be forced to have plastic surgery.
The Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office will determine if criminal charges will be filed against the driver of the truck. No other injuries were reported. Jackson is still in police custody and no bond has been set. The Jefferson District of Probation and Parole was informed of Jackson's arrest and he will have a parole detainer placed on him once he is brought to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
Kenner Police Chief Steve Caraway wants anyone who may have information pertaining to this case to contact Kenner Police Detecitve Shaun Watson at 504-712-2240 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
