LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man has been charged with causing and fleeing the scene of an accident that left a person with internal injuries.
A Louisville Metro Police report says the accident happened at 12:30 a.m. June 21 on New Cut Road at the Gene Snyder Freeway (KY 841) off ramp. A witness said a white Toyota Tacoma came off the ramp at a high rate of speed, ran the red light and hit car on New Cut Road. The car was spun around 360 degrees ejecting the driver who was taken to hospital with serious abdominal injuries.
The Tacoma got back on the Snyder and headed west. It was spotted at Dixie Highway by an officer who saw the vehicle with severe damage and dragging parts.
According to police, the driver, Heriberto Cardonas Mirands, 25, admitted being in the crash and leaving the scene. In their report, officers said Cardonas Mirands "acted like the whole thing was a just a joke to him."
Cardonas Mirands is charged with assault, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain insurance, no operators license, reckless driving and disregarding a traffic control device. Jail records also show Cardonas Mirands is also being held for the Immigrations and Naturalization Service.
