WASHINGTON, DC (CNN) - The FBI has staged a massive crackdown on child prostitution.
The agency says as part of "Operation Cross Country" it rescued almost 170 children during a nationwide sex-trafficking roundup in more than 100 U.S. cities.
More than 280 people are facing state and federal charges related to the alleged trafficking.
FBI Director James Comey says American children are not for sale.
"These are not faraway kids in faraway lands. These are our kids on our street corners, our truck stops, our motels, our casinos. These are America's children," he said.
The FBI did not release the ages of all the victims, but did say one was an 11-year-old girl.
