(CNN) - Diane Sawyer is stepping down as anchor of ABC's World News.

She'll be replaced on the nightly newscast by current weekend World News anchor David Muir in September.

While Good Morning America co-host George Stephanopoulos will have the title of "Chief Anchor" and handle big breaking news stories and elections.
