NEW ORLEANS, (WVUE) -

Nearly 500 customers were without power Thursday morning after overnight storms sent Entergy workers scrambling. As of 9:20 a.m., Entergy's outage map indicates it has been mostly restored.

The power had been out since Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Entergy blamed the outage on a fallen tree, saying it caused "severe damage" to utility equipment serving the area along Woodland Drive near Our Lady of Holy Cross College.

People who live in the neighborhood were frustrated as they tried to get ready for work in the dark.

"It has happened in the past, but the lights always come back on," one resident said. "It's not often this type of time - not at all. This is the first time I've ever seen it like this. This is bad with it off this many hours."

They were also worried about losing a lot of their groceries. According to foodsafety.gov, a refrigerator can only stay cold for about four hours without power. A freezer can stay cold for up to 48 hours, depending on how much is in it.
