Chance of rain today stands at 60-70 percent

Updated:
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

There remains in place an upper trough to our west, which is still not only providing more instability - meaning more "lift" in the atmosphere to develop storms - but also drawing moisture and convection from the Gulf, increasing rain coverage.

More storms this morning have been seen moving inland on VIPIR radar and around 60-70 percent coverage is anticipated today.

Finally the upper trough will begin to weaken, decreasing rain coverage a bit for Saturday, but still around 50 percent. Sunday actually looks mostly dry, as do the first few days of next week, as an upper and surface high build in to the Gulf coast.

This will warm temps into the low and potentially mid-90s with nothing to cool us off. The tropics remain quiet and look to continue that trend toward the Fourth of July!
