Apartments deemed 'unfit for human habitation,' 40 families forced to move

LEXINGTON, KY (WAVE) – More than 40 families are looking for a home Friday after an entire apartment was condemned.

The Department of Code Enforcement in Lexington said among the six pages of violations inspectors found mold and raw sewage inside the Dinsmore Apartments.

Families living in the units said they do not have the money to pick up and move in a matter of days.

One resident said leaving the apartment is probably in their best interest, "My baby just had open lung surgery. June 10 we came home and went back in for an infection that is non surgery related and it could be the mold and the sewage. His fever was almost 105, he isn't even two yet."

The property has had three different managers in recent years.

The current managers said they are working with the city to find new apartments for everyone.
