LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) –Signs of abuse led to a criminal abuse charge for a Louisville father.

On June 29, homicide detectives received a report of an infant at Kosair Children's Hospital with life threatening injuries. Originally taken to a Norton Immediate Care Center by his mother and father, the baby was transported due to the extent of his injuries.

According to an arrest report, the infant has a left parietal skull fracture with a hematoma. The father, Juan Lopez Rosales, 24, was interviewed and initially gave no explanation to the injuries.

Rosales then said he found the baby on the sofa shaking, with his eyes rolled back in his head. After that he admitted to police that he hit the baby's head on the wall as he left the house.

He added that he hit the child's head on the bathtub while bathing him on June 24. Rosales stated the infant began showing signs of distress including decreased appetite, excessive crying and lethargy.

According to Rosales, he didn't tell anyone about the injury, including the baby's mother. He stated on June 26 and June 27, he went to several locations seeking treatment, but gave up when they asked too many questions.

Rosales is being charged with criminal abuse.

Doctors say the victim is not expected to survive.
