LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Responding to community needs and offering a helping hand has been the mantra for Catholic Charities of Louisville for 75 years. We tip our hat on their anniversary of service to the roughly 100 professionals, 300 active volunteers and various school groups that help them serve this community.

For the past 50 years, the agency’s Migration and Refugee Services arm has resettled more than 15,000 refugees from 42 countries. The agency recently developed a translation service for area businesses and legal services for refugees. Catholic Charities was birthed by the Archdiocese of Louisville to aid local orphanages and has recently added ministries for victims of human trafficking. In between they have offered a wide spectrum of aid, with child welfare remaining a centerpiece.

As we celebrate our nation’s birthday it is always good to recognize that we are a giving people with big hearts who care deeply about each other and others in our world. Catholic Charities is one of many organizations that exemplify our giving spirit.
