LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police continue the search for multiple suspects after two men were killed in a violent home invasion. The shootings happened around 8 a.m. July 8 in the 5300 block of Red Oak Lane in the Newburg neighborhood.

A neighbor said he heard the gunshots. He said he didn’t realize it was gunfire until he saw police at the home next door.

"I thought it was some fireworks, somebody was firing off down there but I didn't think it was this close though," Jimmy Evelyn said.

Homicide detectives had to wait several hours for a search warrant to be issued before they could enter the home to begin the investigation.

"This is very disturbing," Brian Allen, another neighbor said. "Until today, I just perceived it as being a very unified, everybody pretty much knows everybody."

Outside the home, emotions overflowed as family members of the two men killed began to scuffle. It was broken up by police.

Several people were taken from the scene to LMPD headquarters for questioning. It is not known if they are potential witnesses or persons of interest.

An 8-year-old child was in the home at the time of the incident, but a MetroSafe dispatcher said the child was not shot.

"This has impacted a cross section of the whole Louisville area," Bishop Dennis Lions of the Gospel Missionary Church told WAVE 3 News.

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call the LMPD Crime Tip Line at 574-LMPD (5673). All calls are anonymous.
