PHOENIX (AP) -

The Arizona Department of Transportation says motorists should be prepared for hazardous conditions and temporary closures of State Route 89A north of Sedona because of possible flash floods, mudslides and rock slides resulting from monsoon rains.

ADOT says it had to close part of the highway between Sedona and Flagstaff three times in the past week due to flooding and debris flowing in the area burned by a major wildfire.

Officials say there are no plans to close the highway for the entire monsoon but that additional temporary closures are possible.

According to ADOT, steps being taken to minimize flooding and erosion include staging heavy equipment in the area, clearing debris from drainage culverts and ditches and repairing embankments along roadside slopes.
