LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Two women were killed in a single vehicle accident in south Louisville Thursday evening.

According to Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Smiley, around 7:15 p.m. the women were in a Honda Accord traveling northbound in the 9300 block of 3rd Street Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle, went over the easement and into a ditch.

Smiley said emergency crews were called to extricate the passenger from the vehicle, but both women were pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of the victims have not been released.

Officers said speed did not appear to be a factor. The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating the cause of the accident.
