SELLERSBURG, IN (WAVE) – It was a full day’s work of sawing, drilling and painting at a home in Sellersburg this weekend.

“I tried to get here earlier,” Anthony Pierce said, “but my head was little heavy on the pillow this morning." Pierce and a crew of about 30 people didn’t show up to the Frazier’s home to work for pay.

"No, not in the construction business," Pierce explained. They were there to pay it forward.

"Lord I'm overwhelmed,” Judy Frazier recalled saying about her deck when it was in desperate need of repairs. “I don't know what to do."

Judy and her husband Rick Frazier have been together for 47 years. They now have to change their plans.

"He's just a good person, a really good person," she said while wiping away tears. Rick has a debilitating spinal condition. He broke his neck in a crash last year. The other driver was reportedly drunk.

"We planned to maybe be able to travel sometime and now all of our money is doctor bills and prescriptions," Judy said.

The Fraziers looked to sell their home, but it needed repairs. When word got out, it was all hands on deck.

"Awesome man, do anything for anybody,” Rick’s son-in-law, Josh Mitchell said. “That's why we're all out here today."

Many of the workers were once neighborhood kids who would stop by the Frazier's.

"It just freaked me out when I came out and saw them doing what they did," Rick Frazier said.

He once served in the Air Force. It's frustrating to him not being able to help.

"It's hard to accept. It's hard to take," he said.

Their new deck is an unexpected blessing, the couple said after years of being there for the neighborhood kids.

"And now look what they are doing for me, they're helping me. It's just great," Judy said.

All the work being done for the deck would normally cost thousands of dollars. Judy and Rick are going to be moving into a condo once the house is sold. They are optimistic about their future though, especially after such an outpouring of love.
