Springfield firefighters rescue three drunken individuals from lake

Fire officials said it was a case that shows people should not be in the water swimming when they have been drinking.

The Springfield Fire Department was called to Loon Pond on Pasco Road just before 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Dennis Leger, aide to Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, told CBS 3 that three people, who were extremely intoxicated, were clinging to the side of a canoe.

They had on life jackets, but they were not able to pull themselves back up or swim to shore.

The firefighters rescued the three in about 20 minutes.

Leger said there were no injuries.
