LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Police have arrested two of three men involved in a business burglary that was witnessed by a police officer.
Arrest reports state the three men smashed out the front window of Radio Shack, 4149 Shelbyville Road, around 2 a.m. July 11. Once inside the trio placed merchandise in a duffle bag. What the men didn’t know is a St. Matthews Police officer was watching them commit the crime and had called for backup.
The St. Matthews officer went to the rear of the business because that had been the exit point during several other recent burglaries. As the men exited, he confronted them. The trio them ran back toward the front and went out the shattered plate glass window they used to get inside.
One of the men, Todd Leon Richards, 22, of Louisville, hit his head as he was leaving the store. Richards was arrested in front of Cash America in the same shopping center.
The second man, Davonte Eugene Hoskins, 18, also of Louisville, was arrested by another St. Matthews officer in front of Radio Shack.
Richards was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered during his attempt to flee. He was released to Louisville Metro Police after treatment.
After being read their rights, both Richards and Hoskins gave recorded statements to LMPD about their involvement in the burglary.
Richards and Hoskins were both booked into Louisville Metro Corrections on a charge of burglary.
