LOS ANGELES (CNN) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted some interesting cargo, er, escargot at Los Angeles International Airport.

The cargo was 67 live snails.

The snails arrived from Nigeria and were bound for San Dimas, CA. The accompanying paperwork indicated they were for human consumption.

However, a team on entomologists identified them as giant African snails, and extremely invasive species.

They’re one of the world’s largest land snails, and they’ll eat anything from fruits and vegetables, to paint and stucco off houses. They’ve also been known to carry parasites that could be harmful to people.

The snails have been transferred to a USDA station for processing.
