JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - A gun-wielding suspect in an apparent road rage incident was bitten by a police dog after the man got out of the vehicle he was driving and ran into a wooded area, according to the Jeffersonville Police Department.

Officers were called to a stretch of Interstate 65 in Clark County around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday on a report of a road rage incident in which the driver brandished a firearm. Det. Todd Hollis said police spotted the vehicle a short time later and began to follow it.

The car turned onto the 4300 block of Charlestown Pike, Hollis said, and an officer watched the vehicle pull up to a home. The officer identified himself to the driver, who got out of the car and ran into the nearby woods.

Police set up a perimeter and called in K-9. A dog went into the woods and bit the suspect. He was taken a hospital for treatment.
