Fisherman dies after falling overboard on Ohio

FLOYD COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - A man fishing on the Ohio River who fell overboard after his boat hit an underwater object was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Indiana Conservation officers say their preliminary investigation shows that two fisherman were just upstream of the K&I Bridge when the victim fell in the water. They say the victim quickly resurfaced and was helped into the boat, but lost consciousness.

MetroSafe said they received a call for aid about 1 p.m. July 20.

The victim was taken to the New Albany boat ramp and given CPR before he was transported to Floyd Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

When a passerby tried to tow the victim’s boat, it became lodged under the K&I Bridge. The boat is still partially submerged.

The incident is still under investigation, and the victim’s name has not been released.
