Fancy Farm could attract a record crowd

FANCY FARM, KY (WAVE) - A record crowd is expected at this year's Fancy Farm Picnic, the annual political gathering in Graves County, Kentucky.

Organizer Mark Wilson says the event, now in its 134th year, could attract more than 20,000 people.

Kentucky's U.S. Senate race, one of the hottest races in the country, will be the big attraction at this year's picnic on August 2. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell and his Democratic opponent Alison Lundergan Grimes, the current Secretary of State, have agreed to speak at the event.

Attendees will notice a number of changes at the Fancy Farm Picnic, which is hosted by St. Jerome Parish. The old stage was torn down and a larger stage was erected in its place. Workers also added another section to the pavilion, and fans were installed to keep the crowd cool.
