At just over the
halfway mark of the collegiate summer baseball league season, several Grand
Canyon University student-athletes are already finding tremendous success. Five
GCU baseball players were selected to their respective league All-Star Games,
including:
Andrew Naderer
for the Brewster Whitecaps of the prestigious Cape Cod league. Naderer will
participate in the Midsummer Classic on July 27 at Doran Park. In 9 games
(including 2 starts) so far with the Whitecaps, he owns a 1.76 ERA (6 ER in
30.2 IP) with 23 strikeouts. He has allowed just 5 walks in that time.
Paul Panaccione
and Josh Meyer
for the Matsu Miners of the Alaska Baseball League. Meyer is hitting at a .296
clip (21-for-71) with 6 doubles, 2 triples, a homer, and 7 RBI. Panaccione is
batting .290 (31-for-107) with 21 runs scored, 7 doubles, a triple, and 9 RBI.
The ABL All-Star Game was held on July 20 at Mulcahy Park.
Rouric Bridgewater
for the Asheboro Copperheads of the Coastal Plains League. He went 1-for-1 with
a run scored and RBI after entering the game as the designated hitter in the
sixth inning of a 7-5 CPL West win on July 14. Bridgewater is currently hitting
.287 (41-for-143) with 10 doubles, a home run, and 19 RBI.
Ben Mauseth
for the Oneonta Outlaws of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. Mauseth was
awarded the Tom Kenney Gold Glove Award in the NYCBL Midsummer Classic on July
8 after making an outstanding backhanded play to get an out at first base.
Mauseth is currently batting .290 (42-for-245) with an impressive 33 stolen
bases.
"We've always told our guys that it's important to play summer ball,"
said head coach Andy Stankiewicz. "So it's exciting to see them all over
the country, and really playing well and developing relationships with other
players. We believe that these experiences speed up their development."
"We want to congratulate Andrew, Paul, Josh, Rouric, and Ben for making
their respective league All-Star Teams. That is not easy to do considering that
they are playing with the best players around the country. For them to be
recognized is something that we are very proud of."
