Franchise agreement contracts approved for Louisville ultra-high speed internet

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Members of the Metro Council Public Works Committee and Bridges and Transportation Committee have approved three franchise agreement contracts in hopes of boosting internet service throughout Louisville.

Sifi Networks, BGN Networks and Fiber Technologies appeared before the committee during a special meeting Tuesday where each company detailed how they would run fiber optic cable to serve both Louisville residents and commercial customers.

Sponsored by Councilman Dan Johnson (D-21) and Councilman Kevin Kramer (R-11), the proposed 20-year contracts would comply with Mayor Greg Fischer's initiative to increase access to ultra-high speed internet in under served areas of the city.

The Metro Council will meet on Thursday, July 24 at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.
