Louisville, KY (WAVE) He's one of the best big men in the state, and after giving serious consideration to some of the biggest names in college basketball Trinity big man, Raymond Spalding is going to play for the team he's rooted for all of his life.
With the likes of Connecticut, Duke, Syracuse, Clemson, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Florida all showing interest in him, Spalding chose the University of Louisville to play his college basketball career. "You know, I used to look up to all of the Edgar Sosa guys. Earl Clark and all of those guys. I was a real big fan of Louisville," said Spalding. While the hometown kid his happy to be able to play in front of his friends and family, not everybody in the family is part of the Card Nation.
For Spalding, who grew up a Cards fan, he says he chose UofL so his family would be able to come to his games. His grandmother, a huge UofL fan, but ironically, his father, Raymond Brooks, bleeds UK blue. "My grandmother, she grew up a Louisville fan. Loves it all. My dad, you know, he's total opposite," commented Spalding.
Raymond is very close to his dad who tries to attend all of his son's games, and is now in the midst of a wardrobe change. "I've already grabbed some Cardinal red already," said Brooks, although his longtime friends aren't buying the switch from red to blue. "I've been getting all kinds of text. We're not going to take you, we'll take your son, but you can't never be a Cardinal fan," said Brooks. A house divided is now united, well at least until Raymond graduates.
