LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A convicted felon is accused of hiding a gun in his 15-year-old cousin's backpack so he could attend a rally to stop youth violence.

According to an arrest warrant, Stephen E. Bowen Jr. asked the teenager to place the gun in his backpack on June 6, but the boy refused, so Bowen wrapped the gun in a towel and hid it there himself.

The boy's mother told police she became suspicious when she picked up her son and Bowen, whom she had banned from spending time with her son, tried to get the backpack away from the boy. The woman found the gun and drove it and her son to police headquarters to report the incident.

Bowen was arrested on July 24. He is charged with unlawful transaction with a minor and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
