Powerful storm downs trees and power lines across Louisville metro

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A strong storm moved through the Louisville area Saturday, causing a spike in emergency calls and leaving downed power lines and trees in its wake.

MetroSafe reported they received a total of 141 fire calls – 94 suburban and 47 urban – between the hours of 10 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday. A week earlier, they received just over 20 calls in the same time period.

They also reported 27 non-injury accidents and 9 stranded motorists, both about triple the numbers from the previous week.

Cleanup in the metro continues Sunday, even though the skies have been clear for most of the day. LG&E reports about 1,000 residents are still without power in Jefferson County as of 6 p.m.
