TRIMBLE COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – One week after a teenage girl was killed in an apparent murder-suicide, a vigil was held so that those who could't attend services in Versailles, IN, could say farewell to their friend.

On July 14, Carlin Davis turned 16. Less than one week later, her life would be cut short by violence.

"She was very, very caring, just beautiful," her friend Brianna Tucker said.

Davis was staying with her aunt Niki in Trimble County when her aunt's boyfriend shot and killed the teen before killing himself.

"She was just starting out her life, she had so much ahead of her,” another friend, Sierra Cunningham, said. “All because of the ignorance of one man, she can't have the chance to live her life now."

Carlin had moved from Cincinnati to Trimble County less than a year ago and made friends quickly. At her vigil Saturday it was her friends who honored Carlin by doing something she was known for: taking selfies.

Picture after picture, some of her friends copied Carlin's gestures.

"You will remember this picture, you will remember what it means and you will remember what it's about," Tom Starks, a Trimble County Sheriff’s Deputy who led the service, told the crowd.

After the service, pink and white balloons waited to be released. Her friends attached small notes, bidding farewell.

"She had the prettiest smile, too. She had a lot of charisma, and it's just hard to deal with her being gone now," Cunningham said.

Carlin's aunt Niki, who was shot twice, is recovering at University Hospital.
