Officer injured when woman steals groceries, escapes from handcuffs

PROSPECT, KY (WAVE) – A woman nearly escaped a Prospect grocery store with over $300 in stolen merchandise.

According to arrest report, Rebecca Searcy, 31, filled a cart with groceries at the Prospect Kroger on Timber Ridge Drive. She was walking out of the store, without paying, when security stopped her. Searcy was arrested, handcuffed and put in the back of the police car.

Somehow she got out of her handcuffs, out of the car and began running. The officer was injured trying to chase Searcy. She was found a short time later behind a house.
