Couple charged in burglary to steal copper wire

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A traffic stop by Louisville Metro Police lead to the arrest of two people on burglary charges.

According to arrest reports, an officer saw a pickup truck without its headlights on coming out of a parking lot in the 7700 block of Beulah Church Road around 4:30 a.m. July 28. A short time later the officer pulled the truck over after the driver failed to use the turn signal.

The driver, Gregory H. Denham, 29, and his passenger, Megan L. Walston, 28, took off running from the truck. Denham was caught after a brief foot chase. her arrest report says Walston was in some bushes nearby.

A search of the pickup revealed bundles of copper wire, along with several pairs of wire cutter and other burglary tools.

Police arrested Denham and Walston is charged with burglary, fleeing or evading police and possession of burglary tools. Denham is also facing a charge of obscuring the identity of a machine because the license plate on the pickup has been reported as stolen.

The arrest reports say both gave taped confessions of their intent to steal the copper wire from apartments under construction.
