PGA wives pitch in to benefit Blessings in a Backpack
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A silent auction held Wednesday raised money to help ensure more than 3,500 students would not go hungry during the upcoming school year.
Blessings in a Backpack hosted the auction with the help of several women whose husbands are competing in the PGA Championship.
The wives worked together to make nine garden beds full of veggies and flowers which will be used to provide educational opportunities for Jefferson County Public School students, as well as supply food for the Blessings in a Backpack program at Engelhard Elementary.
Amanda Dufner, who is married to reigning PGA champion Jason Dufner, said helping feed the hungry is a huge help to the community.
“People don't realize how close it hits to home. You see a lot of things, ya know, other places in the world, but you don't really see it and it could be happening right next door,” she said.
Blessings in a Backpack provides backpacks full of food to students in 30 schools. The money raised Wednesday will benefit the weekend meal program.
