HODGENVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Pages and pages of newly unsealed documents detail a professional and very personal relationship between Hodgenville Mayor Terry Cruse and City Clerk Madonna Hornback.

In letters and cards, Hornback writes "I love you" and tells Cruse "I'm crazy about you."

The two face more than 60 charges, accused of misusing city funds for their personal use.

The documents also reveal possible tension the two city leaders.

A card allegedly from Hornback says, "I realize your being married puts a strain on our relationship but it's something we have to work through," and "you didn't tell me you went out with Cindy. When I found out tears came to my eyes."

In May, Hodgenville city council voted to remove Cruse from his position, but in court documents, some members said they didn't witness Cruse and Hornback misuse city funds, but did wonder about purchases. They also said none of the mayor's purchases less than $20,000 require council approval.

Interviews with the council members indicate that some have felt threatened by Cruse and Hornback, both of whom pleaded not guilty to fraud charges in January.

The two are scheduled to stand trial in September.
