LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – One person was critically injured after a car was hit with gunfire just west of the downtown Central Business District. Louisville Metro Police said earlier the person had died. A spokeswoman for the department later said the shooting victim remained in grave condition on life support.

Around 11:30 a.m., a Louisville Metro police officer was in the area of 11th and Jefferson when he reported hearing shots being fired. A short time later, police found a car with two people inside in the 300 block of Roy Wilkins Avenue with multiple bullet holes in it.

Alicia Smiley, a LMPD spokeswoman, said the victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatement. The other person in the car is being questioned by police.

According to Smiley, detectives believe the shooting happened at 11th Street and Fish Court and that the victim was being driven to the hospital when they were intercepted by EMS.

The car was covered with a tarp and placed on a wrecker.

Homicide detectives are at both locations conducting their investigation.
