Ex-LMDC officer arraigned

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A former Louisville Metro Corrections officer indicted by a Grand Jury on charges of theft by deception and official misconduct has made his first court appearance.

Joshua Spenton, 40, was arraigned in Jefferson Circuit Court Aug. 11. Spenton is accused of clocking in at LMDC, but not working at the jail. The indictment says Spenton instead worked elsewhere while drawing a state paycheck.

Metro Corrections officials said Spenton resigned from his job on May 15. He joined the department in Oct. 1996.

Spenton's next court appearance is on Sept. 4.
