KY police officer enters U.S. Senate race

HARRODSBURG, KY (WAVE) - There will be a third person on the ballot in the U.S. Senate race.

David Patterson, a Harrodsburg police officer, said Monday afternoon that he filed about 9,000 signatures to get on the ballot as a Libertarian. The Secretary of State's office confirmed Patterson had at least the 5,000 signatures required, and a spokeswoman said she would provide a final number Tuesday.

Patterson, Republican Mitch McConnell, Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes will be on the ballot.

There are also three people who've filed to run as write-in candidates: Mike Maggard of Richmond, Robert Ransdell of Florence and Shawna Sterling of Sharpsburg.
