Top 5 things to know before the first day of school for JCPS

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - An estimated 102,000 returning and first-time students will rise-and-shine earlier than usual and hit the books on Wednesday, Aug. 13 as Jefferson County Public Schools open for the 2014-2015 school year.

Here are the top five things JCPS parents should know on the first day of school:

  1. Elementary school hours are 9:05 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Middle and high school hours are 7:40 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Some schools slightly adjust their hours, so confirm the times with your child's school.
  2. Make sure your child knows where he or she goes to school. Place the provided identification sticker on your kindergartner's clothing the first day. It indicates the child's name and school.
  3. Know which bus your child rides. If you are uncertain, visit the JCPS Bus Finder by clicking here.

  4. Buses are expected to run late the first few days of school. Anyone whose child is not home by 5:30 p.m. should call the JCPS Transportation Hotline at 502-485-RIDE (7433), the child's bus compound or the child's school.
  5. Don't wait until the last minute to get your questions answered. Visit the JCPS Back to School page by clicking here.

Show off your back-to-schooler by emailing a photo of him or her on the way out the door to pix@wave3.com using the hashtag #WAVE3FirstDay. Your child's picture could end up in a slideshow on WAVE3.com.
