Free & reduced lunch program expanded, slight increase in regular lunch prices

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A total of 55,000 Jefferson County Public Schools students receive free lunch and breakfast. The new school year will see an expanded free lunch program, but those students who pay full price for their lunch will find the cost has gone up a bit.

Elementary school lunches will now cost $2.50. For middle and high school students, the price is $2.60. Prices for breakfast and reduced-price meals did not change. Elementary breakfast is $1.75, and secondary breakfast is $1.85. Reduced-price breakfast is $.30, and reduced-price lunch is $.40.

“This program free and reduced lunch program really helps reduce barriers for more students,” said Ben Jackey, a JCPS spokesman, “so they can focus on what they came to school to do, and that is to learn. So we’re are very excited about this program better academic success for all our students.”
