5 things to know about the Kentucky State Fair

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The 110th Kentucky State Fair is underway! The 10-day fair runs through Sunday, Aug. 24 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.

Here are five things you should know about the fair before you go:

  1. Hours - Gates open at 7 a.m. daily. Exhibit building are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. through 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The midway and tents will close around midnight. Some areas will close earlier on Sunday, August 24 as the fair winds down.

  2. Admission - General admission for the fair is $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 to 12 and seniors ages 55 and older. Children 2 and under get in free. Kentucky Kingdom season ticket holders will have access to the amusement park. People interested in visiting only Kentucky Kingdom will have to pay fair admission in order to get to the Kentucky Kingdom gate. Non-season ticket holders will have to purchase a separate ticket to get into the amusement park. One-day Kentucky Kingdom passes are available at area Kroger stores for $9.95 throughout the fair's run. Tickets are $19.95 at the Kentucky Kingdom gate.

  3. Parking - Parking at the Kentucky Exposition Center is $8 per vehicle. Free off-site parking is available both weekends of the fair beginning at 4 p.m. on each Friday and running through each Sunday night. Three-thousand free parking spaces will be offered on a first come, first served basis in Lots B, C and D in the Green Lot at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium off Floyd Street. A free tram service will run continuously, bringing people into the fairgrounds and back to their vehicles. Visitors will purchase gate admission or present advance tickets prior to boarding the shuttle tram.
