ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA (KLFY/CNN) – Louisiana officials made a startling discovery on Friday - 2,000 animals living in a home in Lawtell, LA, west of Baton Rouge.
Parish Administrator Jessie Bellard says there were dogs, cats, turtles and chickens in and on the property.
The smell was horrendous,” Bellard said. “The chickens were in some little crates and they lived in feces until it built up so much they could jump out of the crate.
Bellard says some of the animals will have to be euthanized and others face a long road to recovery.
Home owner Donald LeFleur was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
