CLERMONT, KY (WAVE) – A woman who was distracted by her cell phone while driving was killed after she drove into the path of a dump truck near the Jim Beam American Stillhouse Thursday night, according to a preliminary investigation conducted by the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office.

Around 5:20 p.m. the woman was using her cell phone while driving a maroon Ford Focus away from the Jim Beam American Stillhouse on Happy Hollow Road and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of KY Highway 245. She then pulled out in front of a dump truck traveling on KY Highway 245, said Lt. Mike Murdoch.

The driver of the dump truck was unable to avoid her car and crashed into the side of the vehicle.

Murdoch said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The name of the woman who was killed has not been released.
